As we regularly receive similar looking or sounding questions we have made a short list of some of them:
A: Since most organisations are not truly mono-lingual and often data from the past is still in local languages we have found that it pays to allow for cross-lingual searching. In addition it is seldom the case that all employees are fluent in English.
Q: Why does KC not have a website in German?
A: We recently re-designed the website. A German version will follow soon.
Q: What languages does Content Enabler support?
A: Content Enabler currently supports up to 35 languages. Of these Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish have cross-lingual support
Q: In what combinations can these cross-lingual languages be offered?
A: In all possible combinations.
Q: Why have you chosen for RetrievalWare from Convera as the search engine in your solutions?
A: RetrievalWare as a product offers us the most functionality, flexibility and stability, both linguistically and in overal searching / classification functionality. Convera as a company targets knowledge intensive organisations similar to those targeted by Knowledge Concepts, providing a comfortable business fit.
Q: Why is the relevance ranking important and how do your solutions differ from others?
A: Relevance is probably the most important feature of a search engine. It determines how the documents found relate to the question asked, and how they are ordered when presented back to the user, thus having a significant impact on which information the user is exposed to. This is especially important where large data sets are concerned, where it is impossible for the user to view all possible results. We have found significant differences between the different players in the search market and we have determined that RetrievalWare is the best in the field. The RetrievalWare ranking does not only use density and completeness, as almost all other products out there do, but it also takes proximity and semantic values into the calculation.
Q: Do you represent Convera for the Netherlands?
A: Yes, Knowledge Concepts actively represents Convera in the Benelux and Germany and can offer multinational organisations Europe-wide of even world-wide service.
Q: Is integration of our company thesaurus possible?
A: Yes, integration of company specific terminology is an integral part of our approach. It can be achieved by the customer, or through co-operation with our services department.
Q: Can your organisation offer operational maintenance and support?
A: Yes, via our strategic alliances, we can offer this. Services offered range from simple telephone support though to full outsourcing solutions.
Q: What sources of information does your solution cover?
A: As the design is extremely open, in principle we can say all. We have however built a number of standard integrations with popular repositories like: Microsoft SharePoint, Meridio, Lotus Notes, FileNET, Open Text, Documentum, Microsoft Exchange, Oracle, Microsoft-SQL.
Q: Can you honour the security settings of the different products we use?
A: Yes, our solutions can handle the different security models in the market and can ensure that documents are only shown or delivered to people with the appropriate access rights.
Q: Why don't you have a fully automatic classification?
A: We do not believe that fully automatic (statistical) systems can deliver useful results. Such systems are particularly inappropriate across language borders, where training requirements are massive. We believe in building open, predictable systems that, above all, remain easily managed in the long run.
